Growing up in a small town in the heart of barbecue country in central North Carolina, Randy has been surrounded by a large, close-knit family with strong Christian values all his life. He seems to have always been singing, either in church, a town choir, or just with friends, and showed an incredible musical talent when he started playing woodwind, then brass instruments in middle school, and went on to drums, piano, and bass guitar.. After studying engineering in university (go 49-ers!) and getting a “real” job, he started an acapella doo-wop group and joined a 16-voice chorale which gave him experience with challenging classical music and allowed him to perform in opera as well as travel to Europe just to sing (of course, playing tourist was fun, too). At this time, he and wife Angie were also leading their church youth group and teaching Sunday school, until God sent them a major curve ball. Within months, they moved to Ontario, Canada and had a child, along with a new job for Randy, and a complete change of scenery and culture (don’t let anyone fool you, Canada IS wonderfully unique). Randy’s singing went to mostly church solos and the occasional performance with local groups as a guest soloist, until God began planting songs in his heart that he couldn’t ignore. He began working on his first CD, Lift Me Up. This was a “get your feet wet” CD, with everything being solo, from building a home studio, to composing music, to playing all the instruments, with a little help in lyrics from Angie and other local friends. Hardly were the discs cool from the press before Randy began work on number two, which he determined from the start would be on a much higher level, from collaboration with other professional musicians to recording in a larger studio. Soon after the a brief tour supporting “Bring It On’ with the band “crimson Moon”, life interviened again and Randy and his family relocated to far western Wisconsin in the Minneapolis / St. Paul extended metro region. Randy now plays in for the worship band at King of Kings Lutheran church in Woodbury, MN. He has also joined in a new Christian band, SeventyTimesSeven, whose mission is to minister to new Christians and especially people who are in recovery and struggling with alcohol and drug addictions. Please visit the SeventyTimesSeven band website to read more about this mission.. |
