 Friends
RAY GUINDON and RANDY SHOAF

The old man knelt upon the earth,
The small child did the same.
She watched the old man clasp his hands,
She tried to do the same.
They knelt in silence a short time,
The old man gave a sigh.
The little one looked first at him
Then at the clear blue sky.

Chorus:
There are angels all around us
Though we may be unaware.
A true friend’s love is always free
When we need it – it’s always there.
A smile and a hug, they both can heal
Many a wounded soul.
There may be apples of silver and apples of gold,
But the love of a friend is the treasure to hold.

Then suddenly she sat up straight,
She knew not what to do,
For a tear was coursing down his cheek,
She whispered, “Grammpa, I love you.”
He said, “My child, you’ll never know
The heartache that I bear,
For though it’s been these many years,
My son is buried there.”

Repeat Chorus:

Her little arms went ‘round his neck
She cried, “Grammpa, I’m still here.”
He scooped her up into his arms,
She wiped away his tears.
And thus they wandered hand in hand
The young one and the old,
The old with hair of silver grey,
The other, hair of gold.

Repeat Chorus:
